Facebook for Parents

I’m getting anxious to teach my Facebook for Parents class at Southeast Community College this coming Thursday (yes it’s during the game and yes I’m sad I’ll miss the first half.) The first time I taught it, I went in with the objective of describing what FB is, how it might be used by young adults, and ethics involved. Little did I know that the majority of the people were less interested in what their kids were doing, and more interested in connecting with their own friends. I guess I should have known as the

recent demographic stats suggest the largest and quickest growing age group growth is 55 and over. Those groups in FB that are dedicated to ban parents could become quite popular. As for me, not only are my parents taking my course (no pressure), it could be a way for parents to stay connected with their kids.

I’m co-teaching a Freshman course for the second time this semester at the U, and a quick survey of the students, more than half liked that their parents had ‘friended’ them in FB. Happy facebooking moms and dads!
